    Technical Requirements

  1. What do I need to use Pocket Cinema?
    • You must have a supported device, which currently includes the following devices:

      • BlackBerry® Torch™ 9800
    • You must have a MicroSD card to store movies (1 GB or higher is recommended)
    • You must have access to a Wi-Fi connection to download movies. Once movies are downloaded a Wi-Fi connection is not needed.
    • Your device must be running a supported operating system.
    • Your device must have App World 2.1 or above.
  2. What O/S version is required to run Pocket Cinema?
    The O/S you require depends on your Device:
    • BlackBerry® Torch™ 9800: 6.0
  3. In which countries is the service available?
    Pocket Cinema is currently only available in the UK.

    4. Wi-Fi

  4. Why do I have to be in a Wi-Fi hotspot to download movies?
    You can browse the catalog anywhere, but currently Pocket Cinema only uses Wi-Fi for actual downloads. This will ensure that you do not incur large data charges.
  5. I have Wi-Fi, but I keep getting a message that says I need Wi-Fi. What's wrong?
    Your Wi-Fi might not be turned on. Please consult your device's operating instructions to set up Wi-Fi. The particular configuration details, including username and password if necessary, will depend on the Wi-Fi network.
  6. Can I watch movie trailers without Wi-Fi?
    Yes, you can watch movie trailers without Wi-Fi. Please keep in mind that you may result in additional data charges, depending on your billing plan.

    7. Using Pocket Cinema

  7. Do I need Wi-Fi to use Pocket Cinema?
    Yes. You can browse the catalog anywhere, but movies will only download over Wi-Fi.
  8. I don't have a MicroSD card. Can I still use the service?
    This application must be used with a MicroSD card. Because these are movies, Pocket Cinema requires a MicroSD card to function. We recommend a card of at least 1 GB in size, which will allow you to store approximately three movies.
  9. Can I watch movies with the built-in device video player?
    No. Movies are only viewable through the Pocket Cinema service.
  10. Can I transfer movies off my device (i.e. to my computer)?
    No. Due to DRM restrictions movies are only available to be viewed through the Pocket Cinema application.
  11. How long can I keep a movie, after it has been downloaded?
    After renting a movie, you have 30 days to begin watching it. Once you have started watching, you have 48 hours to finish watching it. You can view the movie multiple times within the 48 hour window.
  12. Will downloading movies use my wireless data plan?
    Currently, Pocket Cinema only uses Wi-Fi to transfer movies.

    Please note that if you browse the catalog while not in a Wi-Fi zone, you may incur small data charges from transferring the movie descriptions.
  13. If I get a new device, how do I transfer Pocket Cinema to it?
    Please re-install Pocket Cinema on your new device by re-downloading it from App World. You will also have to re-download any movies which were stored on your MicroSD card, as your previous downloads will not be compatible with the new device.
  14. How do I obtain my PIN?
    For BlackBerry® smartphones choose "Options", then "Status". Your PIN will appear on the resulting page.
  15. I am on a corporate BlackBerry® plan, and the application is having trouble connecting. What's wrong?
    Your organization may have an IT Policy which prevents you from using Pocket Cinema. Please contact your BES Administrator.
  16. How do I find out about new movies and features?
    To find out about new movies, please visit the STORE section in the Pocket Cinema App and click on browse by release date. To learn about new features please visit www.pocketcinema.co.uk regularly for updates.
  17. How many movies can fit on my Micro SD card?
    The number of movies that will fit will vary dependent on the length of the movie and the size of your Micro SD card. We recommend a card of at least 1 GB in size, which will allow you to store approximately three movies.
  18. I connected my device to my PC via USB and now downloads aren't working. What's wrong?
    Your device may be in "Mass Storage Mode", which disables your MicroSD card. Please ensure that Mass Storage Mode is turned off.

  20. Will any additional charges appear on my wireless phone bill?
    Please be aware that as you browse the catalog, you may incur data charges on your wireless phone bill, depending on your data plan. This does not include downloading videos, which only transfer via Wi-Fi.
  21. I already have Pocket Cinema and I recently purchased a new device. Can I move any movies I may have rented to the new device?
    Please contact our customer care team. They will ensure that any movies you rented on your old device can be re-downloaded on the new device for no extra charge.
  22. I tried to rent a movie using a voucher, but it didn't work. What should I do?

    23. Downloading

  23. One of the movies I rented failed to download. What's wrong?
    Your download might have failed due to lack of Wi-Fi coverage, or a low battery. Please try re-downloading the movie when you have adequate Wi-Fi coverage and battery charge. You can download a movie multiple times without any charge for 30 days after renting it.
  24. Can I download movies when I am outside of the U.K.?
    No. However, if you already have movies downloaded, you can still watch them while traveling.
  25. It's taking a really long time for my movie to download. What's wrong?
    Movies should typically download in 20-30 minutes via Wi-Fi, depending on the speed of your connection. If you are low on battery power, movies may transfer more slowly.
  26. How many movies can I download at a time?
    You can download as many movies as you like. They will transfer in the order you selected them. Keep in mind that you need to have enough space on your MicroSD card in order to hold all the movies you download.
  27. I downloaded a movie, but it's no longer on my MicroSD card. What happened to it?
    Your movie may have expired. You have 30 days after renting a movie to start watching it. Once you've started watching, you have 48 hours to finish watching it.
  28. I paused my download. Will it automatically resume?
    If you pause a download, it will never restart automatically. You must resume the download yourself.
  29. How big is a movie file?
    Individual movie files are approximately 300 mega bytes.
